What is a widget?

Widgets are simply mini-applications built with Xml and JavaScript that let you perform tasks, access websites programmatically and provide you with fast access to information. The widgets here for example use the Yahoo! Widget Engine (www.yahoowidgets.com).

The Yahoo! Widget Engine must be installed in order for the widgets listed here to run. Apple has embraced the widget phenomenon by packaging the widget framework called "Dashboard" into Mac OS X.
